Phase One of Columbus West Park Renovations Completed January 2009
In January the first phase of Columbus West Park’s renovations came to a close. Much of the building received a face-lift. Interior decorator Pat Merritt of Designs by Merritt, Ltd. worked with facility administration to come up with a new look for Columbus West Park.
The front lobby and the Plum Unit corridor have new flooring and wallpaper. The Private Dining Room was updated with new wall coverings, new carpet, new lighting and built in storage cabinets. Since this room doubles as a conference and training room, we also added a large flat screen television.
The Main Dining Room has been completely renovated. There are new floors, lighting, wall coverings and window treatments. We purchased new tables and chairs, and a china cabinet. We have a new dividing wall with stained glass to separate the dining room into two smaller areas. We installed a large flat screen television for the residents to enjoy during meals.
The Library (formerly known as the Plum Lounge) also underwent major changes. It went from being a cold, tiled room where some residents ate their meals, to a warm, carpeted library with several cozy seating areas and large shelves full of books. It has a fireplace and large flat screen television.
The patient rooms on our short term skilled unit had been renovated with new wall covering and lighting two years ago. As a part of the latest updates, we added fully electric beds, individual flat screen televisions and telephones for our short term residents to enjoy. All the residents in the building now have cable TV access and most rooms have telephone hook up available.
Finally, the semi-private rooms on our long term unit and dementia unit had some changes. These rooms have been updated with new wall covering, window treatments and bedspreads.
Phase two of our renovations will begin later this year, with plans to update our Activities Room and Therapy Room. We have already purchased a new large flat screen television for the Activity Room, and hope to add a flat screen television to the therapy room along with a Wii to these areas to make physical therapy and activities more fun for our residents!
