April 14, 2009
COLUMBUS, Ohio— Columbus West Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 1700 Heinzerling Drive, is home to the Blue Jackets National Anthem singer. Leo Welsh works as the Assistant Administrator at the 100-bed Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. As the Blue Jackets make their way through the playoffs, Leo will be at every home game singing our National Anthem as well as the Canadian National Anthem for games involving teams based out of Canada. Leo has held this post with the team since the 2003-04 season. The Blue Jackets and Leo will be on the ice at Nationwide Arena on Tuesday, April 21st and Thursday April 23rd to host the Detroit Red Wings in their first ever playoff series.
The role of the national anthem singer is special in the NHL. The best teams pride themselves on having the best singers. Because of the success of the Blue Jackets, Leo has gotten extra attention from the media in recent weeks. He has appeared on Channel 6 news and had a lead article in a recent Columbus Dispatch. In addition to his position at Columbus West Park, Leo is an active member of the Hilltop Kiwanis Club.
